The game-based learning methodology used in Merchants is a
combination of three elements:
1) Highly pragmatic content for immediate application at work. According
to Gamelearn, it is based on Harvard’s negotiation method designed by
Professors Roger Fisher, Bruce Patton, and William Ury.
The content is presented in six modules:
1. Understanding the other party - players learn how to strategically prepare for a negotiation.
2. Information and interests – players learn the sources of relative power and how to manage them.
3. Flexibility – players learn strategies for focusing on interests instead of positions, in order to close win-win agreements.
4. Criteria and procedures - required techniques to deal with the cession and concession stages in a negotiation.
5. Communication – players learn how to listen to the other party and understand their interests.
6. Review - practical application of all the content covered throughout the experience.

2) A playful immersive context in
which learners role play Carlo Vecchio, a young merchant in the 15th-century
Venice whose aspiration is to build a maritime trading empire while being
mentored by amazing characters such as Leonardo da Vinci or Machiavelli.
3) An advanced simulator that
recreates life-like negotiations and provides personalized feedback.
