CPA Exam Learning Strategy Game Wins Bronze Medal In Serious Play Competition

Accounting for Empires, developed by Becker Professional Education, has been awarded a bronze medal for its excellence in the 2020 International Serious Play Awards competition in the Corporate and Vocational Skills category.

The mobile Serious Game gives CPA (Certified Public Account) applicants a supplementary study tool as part of Becker’s CPA Exam Review course. With national CPA Exam pass rates hovering around 50%, the Uniform CPA Examination is one of the most difficult professional credentialing exams. That’s why it is important to study effectively to ensure that you pass each of the four exam sections and continue on your path to the CPA license.

Accounting for Empires™ utilizes multiple-choice questions and task-based simulations to provide students with an engaging context for learning. Players answer increasingly difficult accounting-related questions to gain the points necessary to build banks, universities, and markets. As they progress through nearly 140 hours of gameplay, the construction process becomes faster and more efficient, allowing their empire and accounting knowledge to grow, until the candidate’s ultimate moment of glory: passing the exam.

Gameplay
In the game, players are encouraged to demonstrate their skills through a combination of game strategy and knowledge. In the multiplayer mode, they can create alliances, conduct espionage, or challenge other players to increase their resources.

The player starts by building a university, a bank, and a library with the available start-up funds. The library gives access to topics for discussion including individual taxation. Clicking on that particular topic drops down into other categories, such as filing status and exemptions. Just like the CPA exam, each question has four answers, and players have to choose the correct one. The time limit is set at three minutes.
