MAYANUMBERS:
MODERN TWIST ON ANCIENT MATH SYSTEM
MayaNumbers
Challenges Players to Race against the Clock and Count Like the Maya
Everyone knows 1 + 1 = 2. But do you know Dot
+ Line = 6?
Dig-It! Games, an independent developer of "Serious Games" founded by a former archaeologist and middle school teacher, blends fun and
learning for students, specifically those within the important middle school
demographic, with its latest release, MayaNumbers.
The new math Serious Game challenges players’
math skills while teaching the ancient Maya’s revolutionary number system.
MayaNumbers turns
math skills-building into a fun, fast-paced learning game that encourages
players to think differently about addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
“Children in middle school are often
overlooked by app developers and educational gaming companies,” said Suzi
Wilczynski, president and founder of Dig-It! Games. “With MayaNumbers,
we specifically incorporated age-appropriate content into the app to ensure
students of all ages, not just early elementary and high school, have engaging
games at their disposal.”
The latest free math game available as an app
for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch via the iTunes App Store, MayaNumbers
immerses players in the fascinating base 20 Maya number system. Players use the
symbols for the three Maya digits, a shell for zero, a dot for 1 and a line for
5, in a race against the clock to convert randomly generated numbers into
ancient Mayan glyphs.
“MayaNumbers presents kids and adults
with a unique opportunity to think of numbers and place values in a different
way, inherently testing and improving their math skills,” said Wilczynski. “We
are excited to introduce this interactive app to the market. This launch
reaffirms our vision to promote creative thinking, independent learning, and
cultural understanding through educational games.”
Like all of Dig-It! Games’ products, MayaNumbers
features historically accurate elements, including authentic Mayan motifs,
music, and glyphs. Players interested in engaging with other gamers can compete
against users from around the world using the Apple Game Center leader board
embedded into MayaNumbers.
